The HI-85104 is the World’s first fault-isolated Quad ARINC 429 line driver, available in a compact 6mm x 6mm QFN package. The device consists of four line drivers, with an integrated inverting / non-inverting voltage doubler to generate the rail voltages used to produce the ARINC 429 output levels. A VDDIO supply pin is provided to allow compatibility with 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V or 5.0V digital logic inputs, which feature built-in 4kV ESD input protection (HBM).

The HI-85104 meets all line driver requirements of the ARINC 429 specification. In addition, the device features a high-impedance output state (tri-state) when powered on or off, allowing multiple line drivers to be connected to a common bus in test and lab environments. An internal 37.5 Ohm resistor on the TXOUT outputs provides impedance matching for direct connection to the ARINC 429 bus. Built-in series fuses provide protection against high-current transients, while optional zero-ohm transmit outputs are available for applications requiring external lightning protection circuitry. Outputs are internally protected against short circuits.
The HI-85104 quad line driver is intended for use where logic signals must be converted to ARINC 429 levels such as when using an FPGA or Holt's HI-3220 ARINC 429 protocol IC. The part is available in Industrial -40oC to +85oC, or Extended, -55oC to +125oC temperature ranges. Optional burn-in is available on the extended temperature range.
